Two workshops for students and teachers on compostable materials and organic recycling
Biorepack, the national consortium for the organic recycling of biodegradable and compostable plastic packaging, is once again participating at Italy’s leading fair on innovation in education, Didacta Italia, taking place in Florence from March 20th to March 22nd in Fortezza da Basso. The two talks organised by Biorepack will help students and teachers to understand the environmental, economic and industrial benefits of bioplastics and their role in the circular bioeconomy.
12 March 2024 – Compostable bioplastics are highly innovative materials, the result of advanced scientific research and huge investments that have made Italy a point of reference in the sector. And yet even today, in spite of their widespread use, many are still unaware of the benefits they provide and of how to dispose of them correctly together with food waste. In order to present the facts and spread the right information, it is essential to take these messages to the new generations in Italy’s schools.
With this in mind, Biorepack, the national consortium for the organic recycling of biodegradable and compostable plastic packaging, will once again take part in Didacta Italia, the historic trade fair on innovation in the world of education, which will take place in Fortezza da Basso in Florence, starting next Wednesday.
“If Italy has been able to achieve enviable results in recycling organic waste, this is thanks in part to the invaluable contribution that compostable bioplastics have been making for many years,” explained Marco Versari, president of Biorepack. “But there is still essential work to be done in communication and outreach in order to explain the positive role played by biodegradable carrier bags, plates, cutlery, tableware and all the other products made from certified compostable bioplastics.”
Biorepack will host two workshops at Didacta 2024: the first – “Compostable bioplastics: continuous innovation” – will be held on Wednesday March 20th, in the afternoon from 3:30 until 4:20, at the Didacta Green Arena. Objective: provide a snapshot of the latest scientific research in Italy on compostable bioplastics, from biotechnology to methods of analysis. In addition to the general director of Biorepack, Carmine Pagnozzi, the workshop will feature Lorenzo Favaro (University of Padua), Erika Ribechini (University of Pisa) and Fabio Marzaioli (University of Campania).
The second event will take place the following day, Thursday March 21st, at the same time and place. The talk will feature a presentation of the educational project “Recycle, Reflect, Recount — Imagine the future with compostable bioplastics”, prepared by Biorepack together with La Fabbrica, an independent agency specialised in developing high-impact communications programmes.
The aim of the project is to use fun and innovative methods to raise awareness among young people about the environment, and convey the importance of protecting its resources. It will stress the importance of individual and collective involvement in developing active citizenship and will highlight the contribution of innovation and technology in fostering sustainability.
At the event, science communicator Ottavia Bettucci will talk about the characteristics and uses of compostable bioplastic in the context of the circular bioeconomy.
Admission to both talks is free of charge for Didacta ticket holders, subject to availability. To reserve your place, please complete the form
