A changing of the guard is taking place in the management of Biorepack
The Board of Directors has appointed Carmine Pagnozzi as the new general director
Milan, 16 December 2022 – A changing of the guard is taking place in the management of Biorepack – the national consortium for the organic recycling of biodegradable and compostable plastic packaging, the seventh consortium in the CONAI system, as the Board of Directors has appointed Carmine Pagnozzi as the new general director.
The Board made its choice following the decision by the outgoing director, Gino Schiona, to retire at the end of a two-year mandate and after working for over 30 years in various recycling consortia, including REPLASTIC and CIAL.
“Gino Schiona’s professional life is inextricably linked to the creation of the CONAI system, as he witnessed its founding way back as 1998. It was a great source of pride for Biorepack to have had him on the team during the delicate start-up phase,” said the president of Biorepack, Marco Versari. “We are extremely grateful for the passion, professionalism and competence that Gino brought to bear from his very first day. The gratifying results achieved by our consortium in a short space of time are largely due to his work.”
The appointment of Carmine Pagnozzi is a sign of absolute continuity with the work that has gone before. Born in 1973, this native of Rome has a degree in Urban and Environmental Engineering and a Second-Level Master’s Degree. For the last two years he served as technical director of Biorepack. Previously he worked at the Ministry of the Environment on the remediation of contaminated sites, waste management, hydrological disruption and energy efficiency. For six years, from 2015 until 2020, he was general director of Assobioplastiche, the Italian Association of Bioplastics and Biodegradable and Compostable Materials.
“The choice of Carmine Pagnozzi represents consolidation. As technical director of Biorepack he designed and implemented the system of relationships with municipalities and managers of environmental services as well as with treatment plants and stakeholders in the bioplastics sector,” continued Versari. “He faces many challenges, starting with the increase in the population served by agreements and by the enhanced role of bioplastics in increasing the quantity and quality of organic waste collection. I am confident that Carmine’s experience will help in developing further initiatives to counter the spread of non-compliant bags, which inflict serious harm on the Treasury, the environment and the bioplastics sector.”
